Ex Indy 500 racer, chassis # H-64172.

One of the very first, of the rear engined Indycar’s, built by the legendary “Magnesium master”, Mike Halibrand, for Dan Gurney’s “All American Racers” (AAR).

Raced in 1965 by multiple USAC Champion Roger McLuskey at;
1) Phoenix, March 28th, finished 21st.
2) Indy 500, May 31st, Finished 30th.
3) Hoosier Gran Prix July 26th, finished 3rd.
4) Atlanta 250, August 1st, finished 9th.
5) Milwaukee 150, August 14th, finished 5th.
6) Milwaukee 200, August 22nd, finished 4th.

After the 1965 season, AAR moved onto their own “Eagles” for 66.

Chassis #H-64172 spent time at Halibrand on display, so it is assumed Mike bought the car back from AAR, perhaps it was leased? Either way, the car may not have raced again after August 1965 and that would help explain why the chassis is in very nice condition.

Ex AJ Foyt collection 255ci DOHC V8 is complete and dyno hours only. Never seen a race. It certainly is a scene stealer; what a stunning piece of engineering excellence; Seriously impressive piece of kit, that is loosely based off the Windsor small block V8, these shrieking 9000 RPM pieces of art, were arguably the coolest engine Ford created, in their magnificent “Total Performance” era.

Shrike #H-64172 comes with an well organised history file, with many period press releases from Halibrand, Indy events and results, mechanics and engineers involved and even some fascinating AAR gossip from an insider.

Being a Halibrand, she’s full of Mg, so common sense says she’s just a showpiece, but her engineering is fascinating and makes for an exceptional piece of art, from America’s finest racing era.
